Clarification from Public Health and LA regarding places in school during lockdown

Clarification from Public Health and LA regarding places in school during lockdown

This week we have had an  increased number of calls from families requesting  places for key worker children. As always  we are doing our best to support our families but  we are running very close to full capacity whilst maintaining all health and safety Covid-19 guidelines. . It is important that we keep the numbers attending school as low as possible so that we can maintain  the safety of the staff and children in school at the moment.

I have attached below a link to a letter to parents from the local authority and public health . In the letter Steve Reddy  and Matt Ashton remind families that  children and young people, should stay at home unless absolutely necessary.  Children should only be sent into school if there is no way they can safely stay at home and learn remotely.

If there is an adult working at home or able to take leave from their non-critical job, they are asking parents to please think twice before sending your child to school.
This will allow those who really need to be in school to have access to a place. We don’t want to be in a position where we are unable to support safely the number of children wanting to
attend.

The safety of our school community is foremost in our minds and would ask that families consider all options for childcare before approaching school for places during lockdown.

The staff and I understand how hard it is for families working at home and we are doing all we can to offer support with home learning. We still have a number of  IT devices available to support home learning and if you feel that this would support you and your child please contact school. We also have free WIFI Sim cards available if  you need help with internet access.

Home learning update

Dear parents, thank you so much for all your hard work during this latest lockdown, we appreciate all the home learning you are doing with all your children at home.

As you are aware the expectations for home learning have changed so in light of this next week, the work set will look slightly different.

We are placing weekly plans onto our website with some supplementary sheets (like English or maths specific work) . These plans will have direct links to the website we want you to access which have some excellent teaching materials, some of which the children are used to as we use them in school.

This work is new learning so it is vital that the children are accessing this , most work is designed to be recorded into the children’s ‘Home Learning ‘book. (If you need a new book or pens, pencils etc please just let us know) and some is still through our old favourite, Purple Mash.

Please continue to also access books via Rising Stars and practice times tables on Times tables Rock Stars.

To help you in preparation for the week ahead, the weekly timetable will be available each Friday for the following week (There is no expectation for you to complete the work over the weekend)

We thank you once again in anticipation of all your hard work with your children and please don’t forget to photograph your child’s work and send it to us via the year group emails or return them to school .

We will be ringing around parents again next week so please don’t hesitate to let us know if there are any barriers you are facing or any great learning or ‘Eureka ‘ moments .

From all of the staff at OLI

Home reading during Covid 19

We need our families to return all reading folders and books to school by Thursday 15th October 2020?  Books and folders will then be quarantined safely before the October half term?

We would appreciate your support with this as we are very short of home reading books at the moment as the books were sent home with children as we went into lockdown.

Our aim is to send every child home with home reading books for the half term holiday.

Essential use of face coverings – A message from public health

Dear parents,

Levels of COVID-19 in Liverpool are high and increasing every day – we all need to take urgent action.

It is now essential that parents and carers in Liverpool wear face coverings when collecting and dropping off their children at school.   All school staff will also model best practice by wearing a face covering/visor if supervising during collection or drop off.

We hope that families will support this action at your child’s school to ensure the safety of everyone in the school community.

Those parents who refuse or cannot wear face coverings should maintain social distancing of at least 2m from children and other parents/ carers at school.

We thank you in advance for ensuring greater levels of safety at school’s and in our communities.

Many thanks,

Matthew Ashton

Director of Public Health

For those families who do not receive Free School Meals can I remind you that the weekly cost of a school lunch is £7.50. The cost of this has been greatly subsidised by the school.

In order to reduce the risk of infection we have been advised that we are unable to accept cash in school.

Y6 – return to school update

Following the advice from Steve Reddy, Director of Children’s Services and his team our school will be open to Y6 pupils on 22nd June 2020. (See below)

Children should arrive at school at 9.15 am in their uniform. They will not be able to bring in any personal items from home and all children will receive a school hot dinner or a school packed lunch. For those families who are not in receipt of free school meals can I remind you that school dinners cost £7.50 per week.   The children can be collected from school at 3.30pm so that we can ensure social distancing.

We look forward to seeing the children back in school on Monday.

STEVE REDDY – UPDATE ON WIDER RE-OPENING OF SCHOOLS
As of 11th June, almost all schools are open to children of key workers and vulnerable
children. The return of Year 6 children was initially planned for 15th June but this was
paused until 22nd June.
Having consulted with Cheshire and Merseyside Directors of Public Health 1, they now feel able to support schools to progress their plans for a phased return of Year 6, if deemed safe to do so on 22nd June.
This will be based upon the individual context of each school and will be dependent upon the size and layout of the building, circulation around the site and availability of staff. Places will be allocated until a school reaches its capacity as determined by its individual risk assessment. Once again, the stage at which
schools are able to open for these pupils will vary from school to school.

Y6 return to school -DELAYED

Following recent information about the virus rate and advice from public health, school’s have been advised by Steve Reddy the director of Children’s Services Liverpool, NOT TO OPEN for Y6 on the 15th June 2020 as planned.

We will continue to work with the local authority, school staff and governors to ensure that we meet the needs of as many children as possible. More information will follow for our Y6 children and families and we will continue to risk assess for a wider school reopening as we move forward throughout the summer term.
