Welcome to Reception
The Reception team this year will be Miss Whittaker and Mrs Culshaw, supported by Mrs Clarendon and Miss Mulholland.
We are very excited about the year ahead and look forward to beginning this special journey with the children as they start their school life with us. We are committed to creating a happy, nurturing and engaging environment where every child feels safe, confident and ready to learn.
We will keep you updated with the children’s learning and experiences through our Year Group Chatter page and Instagram.
Reading at Home
Reading regularly at home is one of the most important ways you can support your child as they begin their school journey. We encourage you to read with your child every evening, even if it is just for a few minutes. Talk about the pictures, characters and events in the story, and ask simple questions to encourage your child to share their ideas and understanding.
These early reading experiences help to build strong foundations for your child’s reading, language and communication skills. Most importantly, sharing stories together provides valuable quality time and helps to develop a lifelong love of reading for pleasure.

EYFS Reception Long Term Curriculum Overview
Home Learning
Children will be given a new home reading book, linking to their phonics learning for the week, each Friday. Please read and re-read this book with your child to develop their reading and fluency. They will also choose a story book to take home to share with you. Please bring book bags in to school each day.
Every Friday we will also send home a ‘Vocabulary Flower’ with your child. This will contain new words we will introduce, linking to our learning and will support your child’s vocabulary development. Please talk about these words with your child and their meanings.
Sharing Learning
We will share your child’s learning with you via the App, SeeSaw. We may also send some home learning activities through the App so please speak to staff if you need some support accessing SeeSaw.
