Girls and boys, aged 6 – 15, are invited to join a football camp, free of charge, at Anfield Sport and Community Centre, between 25th and 27th October (9:30am – 3:30pm). The camp is funded by the James Milner Foundation and if you are interested in your child/children taking part, please register online at www.liverpoolfc.com/foundation before 21st October 2016.

West Everton Community Council, in association with the Shewsy, are once again holding the annual Blue Run for Joseph in the lower part of Everton Park, on Friday 14th October.

We would love to see a huge turn-out from our pupils and families to support this fantastic local cause. Last year, our pupil team won the schools’ event with around 20 pupils and parents taking part. Members of our school cross country team are expected to attend and will wear our school vests.

If you would like to take part, please download and complete the flyer below (your child will be bringing one home today – check reading folders!) and assemble at the Shewsy at 3.45pm. Members of school staff will also be there!

Well done to all of this week’s attendance and certificate winners! An extra special mention to those children from Year 5 and 6 who were awarded with Liverpool FC tickets for 100% attendance and punctuality so far this year!

The dust settled on a exciting disco session last night, with all the children in high spirits and it’s safe to say all the teachers will be coming home having learnt a few dance moves! The activities from Wednesday and Thursday definitely took their toll on the pupils as all was silent by 10:30pm!

A very sleepy group had another full English breakfast, with a few opting for just cereal, before two more activities this morning.

Beds are currently being stripped (ready for a trip to the laundry room) as well as suitcases being packed as we leave our cabin behind. Everyone has had a brilliant experience, but can’t wait to be back amongst parents and families.

We are leaving Colomendy at 1:30pm and aim to arrive back at school for 2:30pm. A full gallery will be available on the website by next week and we would love it if you could spend some time signing our website guestbook about the experience (parents and children).

Good evening from Colomendy! The children are currently out on their evening activities before the disco tonight, after a tiring but impressive day! All of the children have worked really hard; by encouraging each other throughout each activity, they have pushed themselves out of the comfort zone and have achieved so much.

At the lake, one group took a well earned dip in the water after some swashbuckling canoe action whilst two groups worked together to help each other up Jacob’s Ladder!

The camaraderie between the children has been excellent and they have definitely done their parents, families and school proud so far!

We have had a great first evening at Colomendy, with Caving and the Leap of Faith being pupils’ favourites! Even Mr. Cotton got in on the action at the Leap of Faith – impressive stuff!

Everyone has tucked into a full English breakfast, with side orders of cereal and fruit! The children are now getting ready for Canoeing, Problem Solving, Climbing, Low Ropes, 3G Swing and much more!!

We’ll update later on with more pictures from the day! Everyone is safe and sound!

Year 6 have arrived safely at Colomendy. Beds have been made and the children are enjoying some free time before tea at 5pm. They then have two activities taking place this evening! Will update as and when we can!

This week each class teacher will choose 2 ICT monitors to help with the management of ICT around the classrooms. The children will be empowered to be able to locate the correct ICT equipment and set it up for their classmates. It is hoped that this will enable the children to develop in confidence with using computing equipment.

Jackie, from Beat the Street, came to award us with our two 2nd place prizes for the Summer competition! The pupils, families and staff worked extremely hard to finish in 2nd place, covering the distance from Liverpool to Moscow – an outstanding achievement!!

Mrs Sergeant tasked the children with thinking of playground equipment they would like to buy with the vouchers they have won.

Thank you for another great turn out this morning in Key Stage One, next week we will be preparing for afternoon tea. We can’t to see you there!

The first event of the Cross Country calendar is always a tough one, with pupils getting to grips with what is expected of them during the races.

We were lucky enough to have 2 or 3 pupils who had taken part in one race last year, who helped the younger ones to make it through. Well done to all the team, but a special mention to girls captain Katie Trainer, who made it into the top 30 out of over 100 runners!

If your child is interested in joining our after school running club, please speak to Mr Garth. Also, Liverpool Harriers Athletics Club are looking for Year 5 and 6 pupils to join their cross country teams – to take part in events across Merseyside. They train at Wavertree Sports Park on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6:30 – 7:30pm.

Dear Parents and Carers

Today we will be launching a new E-Safety Programme of Study to increase our knowledge and education of internet safety. The DfE Guidance on Internet Safety : Keeping Children Safe in Education (live from 5 September 2016) says:
“All schools will be required to put in place strengthened measures to protect children from harm online, including cyber bullying.” Governors and heads have to ensure children learn about online safeguarding. This means going beyond an assembly but embedding into classroom and PHSE.

As such, we will launch a programme called E-Cadets where  the children are empowered to pass on their internet safety knowledge through set programmes of learning. We will be electing 2 e-cadets from each class who will be internet safety focal points and will work closely with the School Council to reach out to all children to learn about the ever changing internet safety world.

We were delighted to have two special guests attend our Golden Assembly, on Friday, to present us with our Healthy Schools certificate and plaque.

They are the combination of a lot of hard work from Miss Hughes, the kitchen staff and the pupils. It displays our commitment to making our pupils’ lives as healthy as possible, from the salad bar in the canteen to the activities during ‘Healthy Schools Week’.

This year, on September 13th, Roald Dahl would have been one hundred years old. As a school, we decided to celebrate his birthday by completing lots of different activities based on his most loved books.

These are just a selection of some of the things we got up to today – Roald Dahl Day!

Year one had great fun exploring the ‘BFG’ with lots of activities based around the book.

Year two made a mind map of what they know about Roald Dahl and then wrote some recommendations of their favourite books.

Year three and four had to wonder what he looked like and where he lived, then researched to see if they were correct.

They wrote book recommendations in ‘Dream book jars’.

Year three and four completed some Roald Dahl theme number problems and challenges.

They also had a fab time making a version of ‘George’s Marvellous Medicine’. (It was a bit smelly though!)

They enjoyed it so much they decided to write the recipe for EYFS  (They’re sure the teachers will love it!)

Mr Garth’s class recapped the first chapter of Roald Dahl’s autobiography; Boy Tales of Childhood, which they are reading in our literacy topic. The children scanned the text and identified facts about his life and wrote them up into a fact file in their literacy books.

A Junior Parkrun is being launched at Stanley Park this weekend as part of the ‘Get Kids Active’ initiative.

Parkrun currently offers free 5km runs in Crosby, Croxteth Hall and Princes Park with the latest addition being a Junior Parkrun aimed at children aged 4 – 14. The junior run will take place every Sunday at 9:00am, starting on 18th September.

All children of four or over are encouraged to take part, whatever their circumstances. They can run, jog or walk the course, so all are welcome. It’s free and it will be fun! To take part you will need a barcode which can be accessed via an online form and requires printing out and taking to the event. If you do not have access to a printer, we are offering you the chance to get your child’s barcodes in school at the following times and dates:

Tuesday 13th September 3:00 – 3:30pm (Media Suite – Access next to After School Club)

Friday 16th September 8:45 – 9:15am and 3:00 – 3:30pm (Media Suite – Access next to After School Club)

A reminder to parents of children who are going on the trip to PGL in October, that the payment deadline is next Friday (16th September). If there are any issues regarding the trip, please speak to Mr Garth. The total cost of the trip is £80. A meeting for parents will be scheduled before the trip to communicate final arrangements and packing lists. Details to follow.

At this time, we will not be taking payment for any children who are currently not on the list. If any extra places become available, a message will be sent out to parents.

Our school was invited to join the Young Fan Initiative Scheme with Liverpool FC, giving us the chance to get match tickets for 4 home games this season. OLI’s two pupil representatives met two first team player, Mamadou Sakho and Alberto Moreno, who revealed the matches we would be getting tickets for this year.

Rossana also managed to get herself interviewed for LFC TV, sharing what had happened at the event – keep an eye out for her!
