Today, Year 3 were given a wonderful opportunity to take part in practical Science sessions in Notre Dame Secondary School. This was just an amazing opportunity and we hope to visit again on a more regular basis.
Year Two will be visiting tomorrow and are very excited!

Healthy Schools Week has begun, with Year 1 and 2 having their sports day this morning and half of the school making healthy pizzas today! Sports days continue this week, with the remaining classes making healthy pizzas tomorrow. Thank you to the parents for supporting today and we hope to see many more this week!

Thank you to Year 5 who prepared a wonderful e-safety assembly for the school today. The message was very important: be SMART online! If you ever have any issues online, report it to an adult. You can always contact CEOP using the link on the homepage of our website, if you see anything you do not like online.
Year 6 and Year 3 took part in their very own EU Referendum today. For the last two days, Year 6 have been learning about the arguments from the ‘Remain’ and ‘Leave’ campaigns and deciding which one they wanted to vote for.
After deciding, each child worked on a piece of writing to use in the debate. Two teams of 4 pupils were chosen and the rest of the class acted as the audience. Year 3 pupils were invited to watch and listen, with all of the audience casting their votes.
The results were 93% ‘Remain’ and 7% ‘Leave’.
Year 5 and 6 took part in refugee awareness workshops today, with EMTAS, the local authority’s education support for ethnic minorities. The pupils discussed and role-played how we welcome people and how we can welcome new people into our community and school.
Our School Council were fortunate to go to the Town Hall today to see the Queen as she visited Liverpool for the day. The council were also joined by Mrs Eaton, who was sharing in the excitement of the day!
Well done to our cricket team who finished in 6th place at today’s City Finals at Sefton Park Cricket Club. Once again, they have shown the school’s talent for cricket and we hope to be involved in finals day next year!
We would like to thank all dads and everybody else who attended the football match. The children really enjoyed this experience and quality time with yourselves and they thoroughly enjoyed beating you!

After coming through the after school cricket club to be chosen for the team, OLI were pitted against Wellesbourne, The Trinity and Middlefield in the group stages of the North/Central heat.
The first match against Middlefield saw Michee grab a hat trick of wickets to bring victory to OLI. Amman, team captain, won the toss and elected to field first. Restricting Middlefield to 213, the target was 214 to win. The game plan of no losing early wickets, worked with a total of 238 for OLI, for 2 wickets.
Game two was against Wellesbourne. Losing the toss, we were put into bat first and posted a respectable 244. Some poor fielding saw Wellesbourne narrowly win by 12 runs, putting them top of the group.
It seemed like Wellesbourne would take the top spot in the group, but there was a surprise in store. In our final match against The Trinity, Ayman won the toss and put them in to bat. Slow bowling allowed The Trinity to make some ground, scoring successive sixes to bring a total of 256. Wickets from Isabel and Michee dented their attack and brought some hope to the OLI batters.
Without losing a wicket, we scored a very high score of 285! Michee, Holly Spellman and Sean all chipping in with sixes extended our run score. Wellesbourne, Middlefield and ourselves won 2 matches out of 3, so it was down to who scored the most runs for 1st and 2nd place. After the demolition of The Trinity, we sat on top of the league, with Wellesbourne in second place.
A semi-final against Rudston was abandoned after a heavy downpour, and with no way to call a winner, both teams were put through to next week’s city finals at Sefton Park Cricket Club.
Well done to all the team, who all played an integral role – fielding and batting!
Today some Year 3 and 5 pupils were lucky to meet award winning nature author and Cambridge professor Robert MacFarlane. The children recently completed a writing project, coming up with their own words for different wildflowers in Everton Park, planted as part of the ‘Grow Wild’ project. Robert is particularly interested in language associated with landscape and nature and was so impressed with the imaginative words that the children created!
Just to remind all dads, uncles, granddads or other male figures, there will be a fathers day football match to celebrate Fathers day.
The match will be a bit of fun for the children and adults and a chance to spend some quality time together!
The match will take place on the Key Stage One yard and start at 2.30pm on Friday 17th June 2016. If you have any questions please ask one of the Key Stage One team.
We are delighted to be awarded the Gold Games Mark Award for 2015/16, for our commitment, delivery and engagement of competitive school sport this year.
This is a fantastic achievement with only a few schools in the city currently holding this award. 3 years ago we held the bronze award, finally gaining the silver award last academic year. A huge step-up was needed for the Gold Award, entering more competitions, ensuring more children have the opportunity to participate in extra curricular clubs and compete in a wide range of sports within school and against other schools.
Thank you to the Liverpool School Sports Partnership for supporting us throughout the year with PE and Sport, as well as parents and families who have supported at competitions and events.

A reminder to Year 2 parents that we are now taking payments for their PGL trip in October 2016. The cost of the trip is £80 and payment will need to be made in full by Friday 16th September 2016. This will allow all the final paperwork to be sent off to the local authority and approved.
Payments can be made in the Year 2 area, before or after school, where payment cards will be filled out for your child. If you were unable to attend the meeting this week, information about the trip is with Year 2 staff.
Trip date: Wednesday 19th – Friday 21st October 2016.
The children in Key Stage 2 would like to invite their parents and families to join them in Everton Park to get active and collect points for our school. We will be leaving school at 1.30pm, so bring your registered cards and meet us outside the school hall tomorrow (Friday 27th May)!
We would like to thank all parents for your participation in our Africa day celebration! The sessions were extremely successful and it was lovely to see you getting involved with your children.
The feedback sheets have been very positive to quote “I thought today was brilliant, I think the parents enjoyed it more than the children! I think everyone has tried really hard in all activities”.

Walton Festival 2016 a new event funded by Liverpool City Council, Mayor of Liverpool, Sport and Recreation Service and Liverpool Housing Trust. Thousands of Liverpool residents will attend over 16th and 17th July 2016. The Festival will have a theme of health, wellbeing and community cohesion and provides an opportunity to showcase the park’s wonderful heritage. It will feature a whole range of activities and attractions including a large multi sports area, displays and taster sessions, a beach, children’s entertainment, ‘It’s a Knockout’ competition for corporate teams, 5k family fun run, dance and performing arts, live music, Victorian funfair rides, pet’s corner, market traders, bar and catering and many more activities for the whole family to participate in.

Our swimming sessions have been moved from a Tuesday to a Monday from now on, due to maintenance work taking place at Everton Park Sports Centre. The sessions will now take place at Liverpool Aquatic centre in Wavertree. If you have questions regarding these changes please ask a member of the Year Two team.
Can we please remind parents that on Thursday 26th May 2016 Key Stage One will be holding a fun filled day to celebrate our current topic on Africa. The children will be given the opportunity to carry out lots of fun filled activities such as traditional African Dance, food tasting, African Art and much more. Parents are invited to join us during the morning session between 9.00am and 10.30am and we look forward to seeing you there!
