Language is all around us, we experience it every day with every human interaction. It is a vital means of communication. Modern Foreign Languages (MLF) underpins our aims for teaching languages at Our Lady Immaculate.

It is our aim to provide the children in our care with the opportunity to experience language to the fullest extent and to develop an understanding of how this helps them to communicate and interact with people and the world around them.

We believe that learning a foreign language provides a valuable educational, social and cultural experience for all pupils in our care. Pupils develop communication and literacy skills that lay the foundation for future language learning.

MFL is a compulsory element of the 2014 National Curriculum. Children across Key Stage Two have a weekly lesson delivered by our Foreign Language Assistant.

Spanish lessons at OLI are fun, interactive and develop speaking listening and conversational skills, as the children progress they begin to develop skills in reading and writing in Spanish by the end of Key Stage two.
