Pixel Art in Computing

Dear all,

I hope you’re all well rested after the Easter break.

I’m really pleased to share the most recent list and Newsletter of upcoming community events taking place through Beautiful New Beginnings CIC, which I’ve attached for you to pass on to your families. These include a variety of forest schools, family mindfulness sessions, SEND parents’ coffee evenings, stay and plays, water wellbeing and lots more!

Best of all, your families can access these meaningful experiences and support without the worry of high expenses. One of the most rewarding aspects of working alongside a Community Interest Company is our shared commitment to making opportunities accessible for all. We work incredibly hard to secure funding so that these events are either completely free or heavily subsidised.

We are passionate about providing families with valuable, enjoyable experiences and support, without having to be placed on a long waiting list first, in friendly and welcoming environments. We can’t wait to welcome your families.

Please do feel free to share this information on your parent/carer forums, and do let me know if you’d like any additional details.

We celebrated Internet Safety Day across our school, focusing on this year’s theme: “Smart tech, safe choices: Exploring the safe and responsible use of AI.”

The children revisited the key rules for staying safe online and took part in quizzes, designed informative posters, compared AI to humans and explored what artificial intelligence can do, as well as the potential risks that come with it.

This week in computing, year 3 worked on algorithms and programming a computer to follow a set of instructions by building code.

Today Year 2 have been introduced to Scratch Junior they have been moving characters around by giving them instructions ☺️💻

Attached is the YPAS Parenting offer for Jan-April, details on how you can refer  or how you can self refer is included on the attachment ⭐ .

Today during Computing, Year 2 had an introduction to algorithms!

We welcomed parents and friends from all over the school to talk to us about a variety of careers. We listened very carefully to Mr Lawler who is a Personal Advisor. We enjoyed learning about how we can support our communities and train to also be a PA. Thank you Kenny !

Today Year 4 welcomed 2 midwives into school to talk about their careers and how they perform their daily jobs. We were so interested in how they learnt how to be mid wives and how they helped mums and deliver their babies.

Thank you so much Jen & Imogen.

ASD Social Interactions / Play Workshop

We explored the Paintz app in our lesson and used some of the tools to create different pictures using our new skills!

Attached is the feedback from the IQM assessment day. It is so lovely and everyone should be so proud of their achievements and the feedback we received. It is attached for you to all read in full detail BUT I have pulled out a few quotes that will inspire!
Thank you to you all; as the Assessor commented:

“OLI has a deep and continued commitment to inclusion.”

A parent said, ‘they don’t know how good they are because it’s so natural.’”

There is a lively atmosphere in the school canteen where excellent food is prepared by friendly staff.

Children attending OLI certainly get a good deal.”

“The IQM targets set and achieved at OLI serve to complement and enhance the inclusive ethos of the school.”

“They work well together and ‘enjoy a laugh.’ This is something that I personally value greatly. A happy staff means happy pupils.”

“I was particularly struck by how older children engage with each other in lessons. As 1 pupil speaks, the class would turn to show interest and display active listening.”

“It was an absolute pleasure to spend a day with staff and children, and I feel inspired and enthused to trial ideas in my own school.”

“Comments from stakeholders’ centre around the school being ‘warm,’ ‘amazing,’ and ‘like home.’ I would fully agree with these quotes. All staff, including cooks, the site manager, learning support, and Governors, clearly articulate the same ethos and enjoy being there. External support staff expressed how this is ‘comfortably the best school they work in.”

“Our Lady Immaculate Catholic Primary School is an exceptionally inclusive school.”

“It was lovely to see the early years children practising self-regulation through peer massage as part of the MISP programme. (Massage in Schools Programme). Clearly, this is embedded as a regular feature, and very young children were showing care and empathy towards their peers.”

“Observation of ZOR in Early Years area showed staff well-deployed to support children unable to fully mix with mainstream, but still receiving entitlement.”

“There is a lot of evidence that staff at OLI are very well trained,”

“Diversity in the curriculum is apparent”

Thank you everyone!

The children learnt how to edit online pictures with MGL Mr Moffat. The children created a PowerPoint about the Romans.

Year 3 have been altering online images and creating PowerPoints about the Romans.

Year 6 have worked hard this morning to share ideas about various statements in our new topic about E-Safety & Social Media.

Year 1 showed great confidence in navigating the Mac books this week! #olipict
