Purpose of study
Through the teaching of P.E. at Our Lady Immaculate, we aim to:
- promote physical activity through enthusiasm, enjoyment and success
- promote physical development and improve natural abilities
- develop an understanding of the body’s needs and the effects of physical activity thus promoting a healthy lifestyle
- develop positive attitudes to physical endeavour including perseverance, fair play and sporting behaviour, and the ability to cope with success and failure
- develop aesthetic and creative awareness of movement
- develop understanding and acceptance of the need for rules
- embed values such as fairness and respect
- develop personal and interpersonal skills in a practical way where discipline, safety and consideration for others become a natural habit
- provide many varied opportunities for competition both within and outside our school environment

Get Set 4 Education
Our school has fully adopted the Get Set 4 Education programme, a high-quality PE scheme designed to elevate the standard of physical education. All staff are extensively trained in this scheme, ensuring that PE lessons are engaging, well-structured, and consistently delivered at an exceptional level. -
Full of Beans – Active Lunchtimes
We have partnered with Full of Beans to create an active and engaging lunchtime environment. This initiative not only encourages children to stay active during breaks but also helps develop their sporting skills, confidence, and teamwork. Through structured activities, pupils gain valuable experience that enhances their ability to compete at a high level when representing our school in sporting events. Most importantly, it promotes a fun, energetic, and healthy approach to lunchtime. -
Liverpool School Sports Partnership (LSSP) – Silver Package
Our partnership with LSSP provides access to a specialist sports coach for one afternoon per week. All pupils benefit from high-quality coaching throughout the year, and a targeted after-school club is also available. The package offers opportunities to participate in a variety of sports competitions, catering to all abilities, including SEND pupils and those developing fundamental physical literacy. -
Swimming Provision
Swimming lessons are delivered in collaboration with School Improvement Liverpool at Ellergreen Swimming Centre. Pupils receive expert instruction in swimming techniques and essential water safety skills, with a focus on achieving the national curriculum goal of swimming at least 25 metres by the end of Key Stage 2. To support this, additional ‘top-up’ swimming sessions are provided in the summer term, ensuring that as many pupils as possible reach this milestone.

These clubs provide pupils with additional opportunities to develop their skills, compete in inter-school competitions, and represent Our Lady Immaculate with pride. Our Dance Club also performs at the LEAP Festival, showcasing their talents on a wider stage.Through our carefully structured curriculum, specialist coaching, and extracurricular opportunities, we ensure that every child has the chance to develop their physical abilities, build confidence, and embrace a lifelong passion for sport and well-being. -
