Our Lady Immaculate is a school where reading for pleasure is promoted and children are encouraged to develop a love of reading and become lifetime readers.
We promote reading for pleasure by:
Having dedicated space in classrooms to promote and encourage reading.
Placing books around school such as in the entrance , in the canteen and spaces outdoors so children can have access to books throughout the day.
Providing the children with a range of high quality literature (including poetry, play scripts, comics etc) to access both at home and at school.
Getting children involved in the process of choosing and purchasing new books for our Library .
Giving children a voice to express their opinions and recommendations to promote books and reading for others.
Using our website to promote and share good texts that we enjoy. Celebrating events such as; World Book Day, National Children’s book week, National poetry day etc.
We will soon be holding a book fair, furnished with books from a discount book company.
Providing children with the opportunities to learn about famous authors and their work. Using ICT to promote an interest in authors, stories and reading.
Providing stimulating high quality displays where literature and reading is promoted.
Giving all children the opportunity to take home books from our library as often as they wish.
The introduction of “RFP” time so children can foster a love of reading.
The staff and adults who work at Our Lady Immaculate are ‘reading role models’ and we try to ensure that all adults share their favourite texts and authors with the children, we encourage parents and carers to do the same.
