Attendance – COVID 19

From September, the government expects all pupils to return to school following the earlier school closures due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak. This means that all pupils, unless they are self-isolating or shielding, all expected to attend to minimise as far as possible the longer-term impact of the pandemic on their education, wellbeing and wider development.

Attendance will become mandatory again which means that the usual rules on school attendance will apply, including schools’ ability to issue penalty fines for non-attendance.

This letter can be distributed to parents to outline their responsibilities with regards to attendance from September, exceptions for those that cannot attend, and the consequences should a parent choose not to send their child back to school without a statutory reason.
