DT in Year 2

Today we made pouches and we learnt a life long skill. We learned how to sew a running stitch

🪡

Today year 2 used all of the skills we have gained during our DT topic to make a pouch. We used a running stitch and learnt how to thread a needle.

The children in year 2 learned all about how to be safe online 💻

Year 2 look fantastic on number day and enjoyed their activities throughout the day! ➕➗🟰

these scientists used their sorting and classifying skills when exploring animals. They explored animal groups as well as animal features, deciding how to sort the images best.

year 1 are progressing so well from throwing and catching, to striking the ball with a racket. Control is a consistent theme within our PE sessions.

Today we explored how to make a structure stronger and more stable by adding weight in the correct place.

The children in Year 2 have been learn8g all about Animals Including Humans and what we need to stay healthy. The children carried out 4 different exercises walking, jogging, star jumps and stretches and impaired which exercise raised their heart rate the most. ☺️⭐️🧑‍🔬👩‍🔬

Today Year 2 learnt how to do a running stitch during our DT lesson .This will help us when making our own pouch at the end of our topic.

We have been exploring numbers to 20 and these amazing children can read and write numbers in digits and words, find the number when asked, make the number with mathematical equipment and draw a pictorial representation! 🏆🏆

Year 1 are working hard on their fundamental skills of controlling the racket and ball to be able to use them effectively when playing tennis. It was tricky but they persevered 👏

Year 1 loved their first session with Food For Thought. Adam taught us all about a range of different bulbs and seeds as well as how to plant and grow from a seed. Year 1 got to explore, ask questions and get hands on to plant their own seeds too!

Year 1 explored their sense of taste this week. Can you guess which food we might be tasting? We categorised the foods into sweet, sour, salty and bitter 👍

Today during music, Year 2 we’re learning to clap the rhythm in partners.

We have been reading the Bog Baby in year 2! We have loved this story so much that it has inspired us to make our own Bog Babies 😀

Year 2 are really enjoying their new PE topic this half term which is Dance. We are learning sequences and how we put movements together.

The Eco Council spent the afternoon with the residents. We played games and continued to form bonds, talking about our lives and finding similarities between us all.

Today Year 2 have been introduced to Scratch Junior they have been moving characters around by giving them instructions ☺️💻

Year 2 are really enjoying their new History topic learning all about civil rights activist Rosa Parks. Today the children have created a timeline of her life and we have used dines to show how many years have past.  The children have all had some really interesting questions and thoughts about what they have been learning, even bringing in their own books like small biography’s by Little People Big Dreams books 😊⭐️

Year 2 enjoying their new topic dance, today they have been developing to repeat and sequence, link their actions and use counts of 8 to stay in time. Year 2 have also independently explore their own movements and performed them for their group. Well

!

We continue to be an Inclusion Quality Mark Centre of Excellence !???

Attached is the feedback from the IQM assessment day. It is so lovely and everyone should be so proud of their achievements and the feedback we received. It is attached for you to all read in full detail BUT I have pulled out a few quotes that will inspire!
Thank you to you all; as the Assessor commented:

“OLI has a deep and continued commitment to inclusion.”

A parent said, ‘they don’t know how good they are because it’s so natural.’”

There is a lively atmosphere in the school canteen where excellent food is prepared by friendly staff.

Children attending OLI certainly get a good deal.”

“The IQM targets set and achieved at OLI serve to complement and enhance the inclusive ethos of the school.”

“They work well together and ‘enjoy a laugh.’ This is something that I personally value greatly. A happy staff means happy pupils.”

“I was particularly struck by how older children engage with each other in lessons. As 1 pupil speaks, the class would turn to show interest and display active listening.”

“It was an absolute pleasure to spend a day with staff and children, and I feel inspired and enthused to trial ideas in my own school.”

“Comments from stakeholders’ centre around the school being ‘warm,’ ‘amazing,’ and ‘like home.’ I would fully agree with these quotes. All staff, including cooks, the site manager, learning support, and Governors, clearly articulate the same ethos and enjoy being there. External support staff expressed how this is ‘comfortably the best school they work in.”

“Our Lady Immaculate Catholic Primary School is an exceptionally inclusive school.”

“It was lovely to see the early years children practising self-regulation through peer massage as part of the MISP programme. (Massage in Schools Programme). Clearly, this is embedded as a regular feature, and very young children were showing care and empathy towards their peers.”

“Observation of ZOR in Early Years area showed staff well-deployed to support children unable to fully mix with mainstream, but still receiving entitlement.”

“There is a lot of evidence that staff at OLI are very well trained,”

“Diversity in the curriculum is apparent”

Thank you everyone!
