Chaplaincy Group 2023-2024
Our Lady Immaculate Chaplaincy Group
Our Chaplaincy Group greatly contribute to the Catholic Life and ethos of our whole school community and include children from Year 3 to Year 6.
The children help to create a happy, prayerful and spiritual environment, in which we as a family continue to love, grow and learn together in faith.

The Chaplaincy Group help to promote the teachings of Christ in a relevant and meaningful way by helping to prepare liturgy and by participating and leading the prayer-life of our school; through whole school assemblies, Collective Worship and the celebration of Mass.
The children are also involved in our Parish Community by supporting children who are preparing for their Celebration of the Sacraments, through “With You Always.”
We have an active Chaplaincy Group in school that enhance our prayer life, Liturgical Celebration, Collective Worship and whole school celebrations. The group comprises of children from across Key Stage 2. They have been instrumental in the innovation, creation and development of our Prayer Garden.
The Prayer Garden is regularly used by all classes from across the school. It has enhanced our Religious Education provision and has become a well- loved resource for our school community to reflect and have quiet times.

Summer Term 2024
Inclusion Quality Mark (I.Q.M.) outcome 8th April 2024
Following an I.Q.M. assessment in March, we have been awarded the Inclusive School Award with Centre of Excellence status.

Holy Week and Easter Celebrations – March 2024
Palm Sunday
We began our Easter Story on Palm Sunday which is at the beginning of Holy Week. In church on Sunday we received palms to remind of this event.
Holy Week is also known as The Greatest Week. It is when the death and Resurrection of Jesus is remembered. The Chaplaincy Group and Faith in Action group, helped to retell the story from Mark’s Gospel. Jesus entered Jerusalem and was greeted by cheering crowds.
“Jesus mounted the colt. Lots of people spread their cloaks on the road, while others cut branches and spread these before him…the people were all shouting, Hosanna! Praise God! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna! Praise God!”
Today, we put a cloak, an Alb and palms on our focus table to help us focus upon the events of Palm Sunday.
Holy Thursday
Today the Chaplaincy Group enacted the story of the Passover Meal in our celebration assembly.
Today, we remind ourselves of when Jesus washed the feet of his disciples and shared The Passover Feast with them.
This is also known as The Last Supper.
The disciples left, went into the city and found everything just as Jesus had told them. They prepared the Passover Meal. On the first day of the Feast of the Unleavened Bread Jesus’ disciples asked him, “Where do you want us to go and prepare the Passover Meal for you?” So, he sent two of his disciples, saying to them, “Go into the city. A man carrying a jug of water will meet you there. Follow him to the house he enters. Say to the owner of that house, ‘The master says, where is the room where my disciples and I will eat the Passover Meal?’ He will show you a large upstairs room all prepared and furnished with couches. Get everything ready for us there.”
Mr Cotton took the role of Jesus and washed the feet of the disciples.
Jesus shared his last meal with them as he shared the bread and the wine.
“This is the last meal we shall share together…
Eat this bread…
Drink this wine…
Do this in remembrance of me”.
Let us pray:
Jesus, strengthen us to be your body in the world, ready to serve others as you served your disciples at the Last Supper.

The Garden of Gethsemane and The Way of the Cross
At the end of the supper, Jesus took a piece of bread, dipped it into some wine and gave it to Judas saying, “Go and do what you have to do.”
Jesus knew that his enemies had offered Judas thirty pieces of silver to betray Jesus.
Judas left.
Today, the Chaplaincy Group enacted The Stations of the Cross.
1st Station: Jesus meets Pilate.
2nd Station: Jesus takes the Cross
4th Station: Jesus meets his Mother
5th Station: Simon helps Jesus
6th Station: Veronica wipes the face of Jesus
12th Station: Jesus dies
Easter Saturday and Sunday Morning
Just before Jesus died he asked God to forgive those who were killing him. Jesus said:
“Father into your hands,
I commend my spirit”.
Even in these last moments Jesus was thinking of others.
13th Station: Jesus is placed in the arms of Mary his Mother.
Jesus’s body was taken to the tomb
His friends took his body and wrapped it in a white robe.
Then they placed it in a tomb cut out of rock.
With heavy hearts, they rolled a stone across the entrance and wept.
They thought that they would never see Jesus again.
14th Station of the Cross: Jesus is buried.
Three days later, they returned to the tomb and an amazing sight met their eyes. The stone had been rolled away and the tomb was empty.
Jesus’s body had gone! now an angel shining with light stood beside the tomb.
“Don’t be afraid,” the angel said. ” I know that you are looking for Jesus. But he is not here. For he has risen from the dead and has come back to life.”
Easter Surprise!
Members of our Chaplaincy Group and School Ambassadors took an Easter gift to every child in our school!
Happy Easter to all our pupils, families and friends of Our Lady Immaculate.
IQM – Inclusion Quality Mark Spring 2024
We are applying for the Inclusion Quality Mark this term. Thank you to The School Council and The Chaplaincy Group, who have been working on the Inclusion document too!

The Big Lent Walk!
We have been sponsored for this year’s Big Lent Walk for CAFOD.
In Liberia, the money we raise will support fishing communities feed their families in Liberia and extreme global poverty.
Early Years and Key Stage One, walked through our school grounds while Key Stage Two, walked in Everton Park. No matter where we walked, we all had a great time. Parents and family members also came an joined us on our walk.

The Whitechapel Centre is open 365 days a year providing services to rough sleepers, people living in temporary accommodation and those at risk of becoming homeless. Last year, they worked with over 4,400 people to end or prevent their homelessness.
The School Council and Chaplaincy Grouop, decided that they wanted to help this fantastic local charity during Advent this year, and have been busy collecting food, toiletries and Christmas treats. They will be delivered to the Centre on Thursday morning.
Together we can make a difference!

At the end of term, the Chaplaincy Group will also support staff in preparing and delivering our Christmas assembly.

Autumn Term 2023
We have been meeting every week to discuss Collective Worship in our classes. The Faith in Action Group have been working with Mrs Shepherd to support Year 3 pupils in their worship and helped Mrs Brown to prepare for our Feast Day Mass and distribute The Advent Wreaths.
We have invited our parents to school to Worship with us during Advent.
