Classifying Rocks in science
What a great lesson we had sorting and classifying rocks. We even had a go at using a classification key to find out the names of the rocks.

Our Year 3 and Year 6 were invited to Hugh Baird college to take part in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Maths) Expo 2024. What a fantastic time they had!

Science- topic on rocks and soils
This term the children have enjoyed learning about the properties of rocks. The have worked scientifically to investigate the hardest and most durable rock and how to classify them.
Science week!
Year 1 have been learning all about animals including humans within their Science lessons so decided to keep this going during Science Week. The children explored how they could categorize animals by their features and talk about why they needed these features.
The children then created their own animals and could talk about how the features of it allowed it to be adapted for a specific habitat!

Science
Year 4 have been exploring making phones using only tin cans and string, we learnt that sound waves travel through the vibrations in the string.
Understanding the cycle of seed to plant!
The children showed off their learning by sequencing a set of pictures in order to show the correct steps that happen once a seed has been planted. We recreated this with our bodies practically too!
Science- plants
In science, year 3 learned about the life cycle of a flowering plant using a running reporter to complete a diagram of the life cycle. They also explored each stage to see what happens during each step.
Campfire at the Rotunda
We were invited to the Rotunda for a campfire and we also learnt lots of other outdoor skills and knowledge to take with us!
Year 4 Aspirations and Careers Week.
Today Year 4 welcomed 2 midwives into school to talk about their careers and how they perform their daily jobs. We were so interested in how they learnt how to be mid wives and how they helped mums and deliver their babies.

Careers & Aspirations Week
We welcomed parents and friends from all over the school to talk to us about a variety of careers. We listened very carefully to Mr Lawler who is a Personal Advisor. We enjoyed learning about how we can support our communities and train to also be a PA. Thank you Kenny !
Year 1 visit to Everton Nature Garden
Year 1 had a fabulous morning exploring Everton Nature Garden! We made nature bracelets, planted seeds, made bird feeders and got to prepare and enjoy some yummy halloumi and vegetable wraps. It was great fun being outdoors despite the rain!
Year 5 loving our Science topic about Space
Year 5 have had a had a great time learning about the planets in our Solar System this half term! A few activities include – recreating the phases of the moon using oreos and making a model of the orbits of the Earth and moon!
Exploring materials in our outdoor area -Science
Today we went outdoors and using our observational skills to find objects made of different materials. We recorded how many we found and talked about why we saw more metal and wood than paper and fabric objects.
Science- forces and magnets
Today year 3 explored a range of materials to see which was magnetic or not. They predicted and then tested out their theory. They discovered that not all metals are magnetic.
Exploring absorbency in Science!
we completed a fair test by comparing 3 different materials. We ensured we used the same about of water and timed each material for 1 minute. We came to the conclusion that sponge was the most absorbent material.

During our science lesson we explored a selection of materials and tested which were absorbent. We made this a fair test by keeping the amount of water and time the same and changed the material each time. We found out that sponge was absorbent and we shared with our friends what the word absorbent means.

We explored more materials in our science lesson, today looking at which materials would make a good window for a rocket. We knew a window needed to be see-through, so tested a range of materials to see which were see-through.
January Snow!
What a treat to return to school with! Year 1 were able to link their learning about seasons and weather with lots of exploration in the snow. We used all of our senses to share how it felt, what we could hear and what we could see.
Science
Today in science, year 3 explored a range of rocks. They classified them into different groups of their choice using their properties and appearance. We also used disciplinary reading books to support learning.

Year 1 explored their sense of taste this week. Can you guess which food we might be tasting? We categorised the foods into sweet, sour, salty and bitter 👍
Food For Thought!
Year 1 loved their first session with Food For Thought. Adam taught us all about a range of different bulbs and seeds as well as how to plant and grow from a seed. Year 1 got to explore, ask questions and get hands on to plant their own seeds too!
Year 4’s exciting morning
This morning, our Year 4 pupils learned all about the digestive system. We explored each stage of digestion, starting with chewing a banana in our “fake stomachs”! We then used vinegar and bicarbonate of soda to create an acid-like reaction, just like in the stomach. Next, we used tights to represent the intestines, allowing the nutrients to spread into our bloodstream and leaving us with just the ‘poo’ at the end. As you can see, we had lots of fun and got very messy along the way!
Science
Today year 3 predicted how they think soil is formed. They then used a sample of soil from our school grounds and added water to it. The water separated the soil into layers and we could then identify the different things that make up soil such as organic matter.
Year 2 – Getting active in Science
The children in Year 2 have been learn8g all about Animals Including Humans and what we need to stay healthy. The children carried out 4 different exercises walking, jogging, star jumps and stretches and impaired which exercise raised their heart rate the most. ☺️⭐️🧑🔬👩🔬

Science
Year 3 learned how rocks are formed today by using sweets to recreate the rock cycle. They explored that through heat and pressure rocks can change in shape, size and appearance.
Year 2 Science
Year 2 have been exploring Animals including Humans. Today we have been investigating healthy balanced diets and what this is important for animals and humans. The children are exploring artwork created from fruits and vegetables, their task was to decided which piece of artwork was the most balanced

Today in year 3 we were filled with excitement to carry out an investigation to see what happens to plants if we change the conditions needed for growth and survival. We will return to these plants in 2 weeks to see what has happened and if our predictions were correct or not. 
Year 2 Science
Year 2 really enjoyed Science today, we learned how important hygiene is. We had lots of fun spreading germs using a spray bottle and paint, using the paint we could see clearly how far bacteria can travel and can now understand how important it is to have good hygiene.
Observing animals during Science Week
We worked like scientists to observe animals and their features. We played matching games and drew what we could see, talking about what features made each animal special.
