Hugh Baird – STEAM Expo
Our Year 3 and Year 6 were invited to Hugh Baird college to take part in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Maths) Expo 2024. What a fantastic time they had!

We are little chefs!
In DT we have been learning about healthy and unhealthy foods. We have explored our favourite fruits and vegetable and are deciding which ones we would use to make a salad. We have been practicing our chipping skills by using the bridge and claw method. We enjoyed eating all the healthy food that we had chopped up!

We continue to be an Inclusion Quality Mark Centre of Excellence !🎉🍾🎆
“A parent said, ‘they don’t know how good they are because it’s so natural.’”
“There is a lively atmosphere in the school canteen where excellent food is prepared by friendly staff. ”
“Children attending OLI certainly get a good deal.”
“The IQM targets set and achieved at OLI serve to complement and enhance the inclusive ethos of the school.”
“They work well together and ‘enjoy a laugh.’ This is something that I personally value greatly. A happy staff means happy pupils.”
“I was particularly struck by how older children engage with each other in lessons. As 1 pupil speaks, the class would turn to show interest and display active listening.”
“It was an absolute pleasure to spend a day with staff and children, and I feel inspired and enthused to trial ideas in my own school.”
“Comments from stakeholders’ centre around the school being ‘warm,’ ‘amazing,’ and ‘like home.’ I would fully agree with these quotes. All staff, including cooks, the site manager, learning support, and Governors, clearly articulate the same ethos and enjoy being there. External support staff expressed how this is ‘comfortably the best school they work in.”
“Our Lady Immaculate Catholic Primary School is an exceptionally inclusive school.”
“It was lovely to see the early years children practising self-regulation through peer massage as part of the MISP programme. (Massage in Schools Programme). Clearly, this is embedded as a regular feature, and very young children were showing care and empathy towards their peers.”
“Observation of ZOR in Early Years area showed staff well-deployed to support children unable to fully mix with mainstream, but still receiving entitlement.”
“There is a lot of evidence that staff at OLI are very well trained,”
“Diversity in the curriculum is apparent”
Thank you everyone!

Chopping, juicing and blending with support to get the final product. I think everyone was happy with their smoothie….

Year 4 Aspirations and Careers Week.
Today Year 4 welcomed 2 midwives into school to talk about their careers and how they perform their daily jobs. We were so interested in how they learnt how to be mid wives and how they helped mums and deliver their babies.
Thank you so much Jen & Imogen.

Year 2- DT
During DT, we have been learning all about a healthy, balanced diet. Today, we tasted a range of different foods, we used our senses to also smell and feel them. We then practiced our cutting skills and used a masher to make a dip!

Making a mechanism!
Continuing from our lesson that explored mechanisms, specifically a slider mechanism, we had a go at making our own. We reflected on a range of techniques to make the slider but all found the fold and snip technique the most efficient! Fabulous creations from all children 👍
